[Was gonna post this in that other thread about ud casters, but it fell off the front page.]
Some time last year, I was messing around with off-race heroes for ud, in 3s RT. In other words, no hero until i possess a peon/wisp/peasant and build an off-race altar. Now, I thought the mk would give the best results, because level 3 bash + frenzy + orb is scary. But it turns out dh is the best, by far. The synergy with ud casters is just perfect.
- Evasion and curse stack really, really well.
- Mana burn and antimagic shell stack well. The dh takes 0 spell damage while he's in the process of burning off all that mana.
- Cripple works well any time, but best with a speedy, high dps hero like the dh.
- Using casters for frenzy/curse/ams/cripple (instead of just vanilla necrowagon) works best with a solo tanky hero, like the dh. You use all those buffs + orb to make ur hero into a god.
- The biggest weakness with this strat is focus fire on your hero, leaving you without a tank or dps for a while. Because ud healing is slow. Therefore the dh's ulti is ideal. Insane dps with ulti + frenzy + orb, but also the fast regen you need to sustain that offensive force.
So anyway, I was thinking a strat something along these lines could be an alternative to the tired old dk/fiend, potm/hunt strat. Maybe in 2s... maybe not. But it should have some viability in 3s, at the very least.
If you want a glimpse of how much potential this team strat might have, here's a game i posted last year, with dh/necs/banshees in a 3s game. It's v1.26 though.
