I just finished the Wire, and i know there's a lot of fans here too, so i just wanna see what you guys all think about it.
Anyone here from Baltimore or ever lived or grew up from there or around there? Anyone know how baltimore is these days? are the corners and street level dealing still prevalent? Or has the advance of surveillance and shit taken it all off the streets as it has for melbourne? Of course you still have 'bubbles' type of guys roaming around, but you won't have any 'bodie' types still walking the streets slinging.. like McNulty said, Bodie is a 'soldier'. But soldiers end up dead, or in jail. If you don't change with the times, you will end up dead or in jail or robbed of your life and left with nothing in the end(like Marlo). He had his money, but he didn't care about that shit. Everything he cared about was gone(his name/respect on the streets), and he also found out that he was not even a king of the streets(Avon was). He was just some little naive kid who could only kill people and rule through fear alone, no respect.. which imo, was what he REALLY wanted. What Avon had.
Also curious as to who your favourite character was(let's say top 3. Or 5 at most, can't say more else what's the point lol), and which story arc was your favourite.
Oh, and favourite scene/line/quotes also.
I'm still reeling from the awesome ending(especially Marlo's fate, i loved that whole "my name is my name!" scene, and also the scene at the end when he returns to the corners in a suit, and those 2 corner boys don't recognize him and instead try to headshot him.. shows how fickle respect on the streets is and how far his name went for someone like him.. or at least as opposed to Avon, who was the real king of the streets. But even then, king of the streets is still small time as Marlo found out, he was a small fish in a small pond, at his lawyers party n shit he found that out), so i'll probably think about it and post my own shit tomorow or in a few days after i've had time to watch some YT compilations, had a good chat online about it(hopefully here) and digest the shit properly.
Oh yeah. I really liked how Cheese got his dues for selling out Prop Joe. Method man was talking too much smack and being a bitch, he deserved to get got.
But yeah. The one death that really fucked me was Wallaces. IIRC, that was like also the first death or someshit of one of the 'main chars'. The only one who didn't get his dues was that fuckhead who at the end, was working at footlocker or whatever selling shoes. He killed wallace, along with Bodie. Bodie died, but that cocksucker didn't. He was the one who made Bodie twitch and shoot Wallace by 'accident'(even if he wanted to, i don't think he meant to, even though he could of course went through with it).
